Along with the 5K run/walk held every year, the Saturday, March 17, event also includes a 10K run and a Kids Fun Run. Festivities kick off at 8 a.m. at Hough High School, 12420 Bailey Road. Runners and walkers may register in advance at www.queencitytiming.com or from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. on the day of the race.
Funds raised will go the nonprofit Together Overcoming Obstacles, an organization that raises awareness for Exceptional Children and other special needs programs in private and public schools. The nonprofit will present funds to Bailey Middle, Hough High, Davidson Elementary, Huntersville Elementary, Phoenix Montessori Academy, Torrence Creek Elementary and Croft Community School.
Both the 10K run and 5K run/walk are certified races, and walkers are permitted to walk with strollers. The 5K costs $25, the Fun Run costs $15 and 10K costs $35.
