James Oliver Wesson Sr.
DAVIDSON – James Oliver Wesson Sr., 91, of Davidson, died March 4, 2012, at his home.
Born May 11, 1920, in Newberry, S.C., he was the son of the late George Washington Wesson and Mellie Thomas Wesson.
Mr. Wesson graduated from Newberry High School; served in the choir at First United Methodist Church, where he was an active member for 63 years; and worked American Crankshaft. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II from 1939 to 1945. He enjoyed spending time with fellow veterans at Richard’s Coffee Shop in Mooresville.
He is survived by his sons, James O. Wesson Jr. and wife, Glenda, of Davidson, and Richard G. Wesson and wife, Cathy, of High Shoals; granddaughters, Lori Horn and husband, Don, of Mt. Pleasant, Lisa Lug and husband, Will, of Huntersville, and Sara Wesson and fiancé, Chuck McCarter of High Shoals; and great-grandsons, Donald, Clayton and Stephen Horn and Carson and Wesley Lug.
A funeral service was held March 7 at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Harold Bales and Bob Bogan officiating. Internment followed at Sharon Memorial Park.

Tara Rogers Bright
DAVIDSON – Tara Rogers Bright, 40, of Davidson, died March 4, 2012, after a brief illness.
Tara graduated from The Patterson School in Lenoir. She was a member of Lake Norman Baptist Church in Huntersville.
Tara is survived by her husband, Scott Bright, daughters, Caitlyn Padgett and children Gregory and Olivia of Arizona, and Rachel Presson of Davidson; parents, Ralph and Sharon Rogers of Charleston; brothers, Tres and Scott Rogers of Illinois; sisters, Susan Chappell and husband Rick of Winston-Salem, Chris Heuring and husband, Matthew, of Florida and Marcia Rogers of South Carolina.
A funeral service was held March 9 at Lake Norman Baptist Church.

Eva Elizabeth Burkett
DENVER – Eva Elizabeth Burkett, 60, of Denver, and formerly of Cornelius, died March 5, 2012, at her home.
Born Dec. 31, 1951, in Birmingham, Ala., she was the daughter of William and Christine Florence Houseal of Fripp Island, S.C.
Mrs. Burkett was a member of Cowan’s Ford Country Club and the Peninsula Country Club.
She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” W. Burkett; parents, William and Christine Houseal; children, Kristi Krankousky, Dianna Brown and husband Sean, and Robert Gordon Burkett; grandchildren, Ryan and Austin Krankousky and Samantha Brown; siblings, Alice Vinson, Melissa Gayle, William Houseal; and her dog, Annie.
A funeral was held March 8 at Raymer-Kepner Chapel.

Florence Marion Fewell
CORNELIUS – Florence Marion Fewell, 85, of Cornelius, died March 4, 2012, at her home.
She was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Doylestown, Pa., to the late Anthony and Katherine Gojeweski.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Burke of Cornelius; sons, Billy DeWald of Clifford, Va. and Bobby DeWald of Cornelius; brother, Tony, sister Rose; and five grandchildren.
A private memorial service is being held.

Carl Overlander
CORNELIUS – Carl Overlander, of Cornelius, died March 6, 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Carla; five children; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Henry Fred Duggan
CORNELIUS – Henry Fred Duggan, 74, of Cornelius and Sherrills Ford, died March 7, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville.
He was born in Polk County, Tenn., April 12, 1937, to the late Claude and Georgia Duggan. He served in the Army and Air Force and was a welder by trade, working around the world.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Winkler Duggan; daughter, Beverly Duggan of Cornelius; sisters, Diana Elliott and husband, John, of Mooresville and Vickie Duggan of Georgetown, S.C.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Wayne “Tony” Duggan, daughter Teresa Warlick; brothers, Robert Duggan and Charles Duggan; and sisters, Mildred Goodrum and Ruth (Mousie) Sossamon.
A funeral service was held March 10 at New Beginning Moravian Church in Huntersville with the Rev. Chris Thore officiating.
