The Lake Norman Marine Commission is looking for members to serve on a new rental boat committee.

The committee will discuss creating stricter safety ordinances, as well as all things governing rental boats.

That committee will be comprised of law enforcement officers and rental boat operators and will look for any improvements in the current ordinances governing those operations. Marine Commissioner John Marino will lead the committee.

The announcement comes after an incident last year when a woman nearly died after she was ran over by a rental boat, sheering off her arm.

Anyone interested in serving should contact Marino at or attend the March 12 meeting of the Marine Commission at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville, at 7 p.m.
