Discovery Place will offer summer camps, beginning June 11. Camps are held at Discovery Place, 301 N. Tryon St., Charlotte; Lake Norman Charter School, 12435 S. Old Statesville Road, Huntersville; and Carolinas Aviation Museum, 4672 1st Flight Drive, Charlotte. Registration is open now, online at www.discoveryplace.org or by calling 704-372-6261, ext. 300. Discovery Place
Summer Surprises 9 a.m.-noon; 3-4-year-olds; $100 for members, $120 for others.
Camper will take a summertime picnic with ant and ladybug friends and learn about what makes summer unique.
Big Bad Wolf Demolition Co. 1-4 p.m.; 3-4-year-olds; $100 for members. $120 for others.
Campers will build a house of straw, sticks or brick and demolish it like the big bad wolf.
June 14-15

Sense-ational Science 9 a.m.-noon; 2-year-olds; $30 for members, $40 for others.
Campers learn about all five senses through hands-on experiments, hearing sounds of the rainforest and smelling science.
June 18-22

Young Einstein 9 am.-noon; kindergarten- first grade; $140 for members, $160 for others.
Campers become scientists as they master explosive experiments, create slimy concoctions and play with light and paint to create new colors.
Under the Sea 1-4 p.m.; kindergarten-first grade; $140 for members, $160 for others.
Campers get an up-close look at the Discovery Place aquarium and learn about a fish’s life cycle and undersea adaptations, feed moon jellies and watch a shark feeding frenzy.
Outdoor Adventures full day; second-third grade; $300 for members, $500 for others.
Campers will explore a different scientific adventure outdoors every day, from hikes to animal safaris.
Shark Attack 9 am.-noon; fourth-fifth grade; $140 for members, $160 for others.
Campers learn the facts and disprove fiction about sharks, then perform a shark dissection to learn the anatomy of a shark.
Mummies, Tombs & Pharaohs 1-4 p.m.; fourth-fifth grade; $140 for members, $160 for others.
Campers discover the science of Ancient Egypt as they learn to mummify household objects, build a pyramid, booby-trap priceless possessions and write hieroglyphics.
Renegade Robots 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; sixth-eighth grade; $300 for members, $350 others.
Campers create robots to perform sports-related challenges, like running bases and earning points.
Lake Norman Charter School
Fizz, Bubble and Goo 9 am.-noon; third-fifth grade; $155 for members, $190 for non-residents. Campers investigate chemical reactions, making pennies that float and making colors.
Eco Explorers 1-4 p.m.; third-fifth grade; $155 for residents, $190 for non-residents. Nature lovers observe animal wildlife, plant flowers, hunt insects and investigate what owls eat for lunch. Campers learn how to live green and test water sources for pollution and signs of life.
Carolinas Aviation Museum
Pilot’s Academy 9 am.-noon; fifth-seventh grade; $275 for members, $325 for others. Campers will be surrounded by more than 20 real aircraft, from helicopters to an F-4 Phantom jet, as they learn the basic principles and history of flight.

Discovery Place
Blast Off! 9 a.m.-noon; kindergarten-first grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Campers will train to become astronauts by learning about life in space, exercising daily, creating space gear and learning about the sun, moon and planets in the Starlab planetarium.
Critter Caretaker 1-4 p.m.; kindergarten-first grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Critter Caretakers will work with the museum’s live collection to learn how to approach an animal safely, when an animal may need help, which animals make good pets and what animals need to survive.
Astronaut Academy 9 am.-noon; second-third grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Campers will prepare for spacewalks by learning to operate a space suit, testing their engineering and problem-solving skills with design challenges, and building and launching rockets.
Great Gizmos 1-4 p.m.; second-third grade; $140 for members, $160 for others.
Campers will create and test inventions and share them with family and friends.
Prototype to Patent 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; fourth-fifth grade; $300 for members, $350 for others.
Campers work with Discovery Place experts to bring inventions from imagination to life. Family and friends are invited to see the prototypes at the end-of-camp invention fair.
Discovering DaVinci 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; sixth- eighth grade; $300 for members, $350 for others. Campers experience the Renaissance through the eyes of Leonardo DaVinci, recreating some of his science experiments and inventions and learning about life during the Renaissance. Campers will create and test inventions.
Lake Norman Charter School
Robot Revolution 9 am.-noon; third-fifth grade; $155 for members, $190 for others. Campers design and program robots to do various tasks and compete in challenges.
Bio Bonanza 1-4 p.m.; third-fifth grade; $155 for members, $190 for others. Campers explore plants’ and animals’ adaptations, meet Discovery Place’s animal residents and dissect squids.
July 9-13

Pirate Camp 9 am.-noon; kindergarten-first grade; $140 for members, $160 for others; Campers learn the science behind pirating, like what makes a boat float and if mermaids really exist.
Diggin’ Dinos 1-4 p.m.; kindergarten-first grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Aspiring paleontologists dig for dinosaur fossils, experiment with eggs, investigate dinosaur flight and make fossils.
Summer Science Institute 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; second-third grade; $300 for members, $350 for others. Campers will go behind the scenes of Discovery Place with exclusive access to exhibits and museum staff, dissecting frogs and culturing bacteria from their own bodies.
Medieval Mayhem 9 am.-noon; fourth-fifth grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Campers build, defend and storm a neighboring castle, learn the science behind castles and moats and the myths that surround them, learn about medieval armor and build catapults.
Superhero Science 1-4 p.m.; fourth-fifth grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Campers discover the science behind their favorite superheroes, like the powers of flight, invisibility, super-strength and x-ray vision. They will develop superheros for comic books.
Surgeon-in-Training 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; sixth- eighth grade; $300 for members, $350 for others. Campers learn about the structure of cells, tissues, organs and body systems; experiment with various tools; perform dissections; and learn the basics of suturing a wound.
Lake Norman Charter School
Secret Agent 416 9 am.-noon; third-fifth grade; $155 for members, $190 for others. Campers will design and build secret agent gadgets and use them in a series of spy challenges. The latest technology will aid in surveillance and decoding messages.
Rockets to Roller Coasters – Newton Rules! 1-4 p.m.; third-fifth grade; $155 for members, $190 for non-residents. Campers explore Newton’s laws of force and motion while building roller coasters, setting off rockets and participating in frictionless races.

Super Sharks 9 am.-noon; second-third grade; $140 for members. $160 for others. Campers will explore the myths and facts about sharks, witness a shark feeding and create shark tooth necklaces.
Magic of Science 1-4 p.m.; second-third grade; $140 for members, $160 for others. Campers will learn how to write and decode secret messages, mix potions, grow crystals, make slime and uncover the mysteries of science.
Summer Science Institute 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; fourth-fifth grade
Exploding Science Myths 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; sixth-eighth grade; $300 for members, $350 for others. Campers become science fact finders, answering questions like, can pennies dropped from a tall building kill someone? Campers will design their own myths using physics, chemistry and the scientific process.
Ground School for Aspiring Pilots 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; seventh-ninth grade; $300 for members, $350 for others. Ground school is designed for campers who hope to one day earn their private pilot’s license. Campers will be introduced to the basic knowledge and skills covered by the FAA Private Pilot Test through hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Amusement Park Physics 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; sixth – eighth grade; $300 for members, $350 for others. Campers will explore the force fundamentals of amusement parks and find new meaning in Newton’s laws riding Carowinds roller coasters.

My Body Rocks! 1-4 p.m.; 3-4-years-old; $100 for members, $120 for others.
Campers will learn about the parts of their bodies, what makes them work together and how to stay healthy.

Itty Bitty Builders 9-11 a.m.; 2-years-old; $30 for members, $40 for others
