One of MI-Connection’s two fiber backbone feeds was damaged Feb. 12, reducing Internet speeds. Repairs, done by carrier DukeNet, were completed Feb. 17.
CEO David Auger said in a news release the wire crossed Lake Norman, parallel to the N.C. 150 bridge. Internet traffic was re-routed to the company’s other backbone provider, but the break cut MI-Connection’s bandwidth in half. As a result some customers may have had difficulty streaming video or experienced slow speeds during peak evening hours.
Customers who believe the break affected their service can email miccustomer
request@mi-connection.com before March 1 with their name, account number, physical address and contact telephone number, and a representative will contact them.
