Zerma Cosart Schiewe

HUNTERSVILLE – Zerma Cosart Scheiwe, 90, of Long Island, N.Y., died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Huntersville Oaks.

She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Cowden, Ill., to the late Earnest and Ruth Fowler Cosart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Virgil Scheiwe; infant daughter, Judith Ann Scheiwe; and brothers, Raymond and Wilbur Cosart.

She is survived by daughters, Donna Pretzer, Pamela Rodgers and husband, Gary; brother, Herschel Cosart; grandchildren, Jason Pretzer and wife, Tammy, Jeffrey Pretzer and wife, Stacie, Brent Pretzer and wife, Beth, Monica Abbotte and husband, Jeff, Bryan Rodgers and wife, Heather, Rebecca Phares and husband, Jacob, Gregory Rodgers and wife, Morgan, and Christina Rodgers; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be held in Clinton Township, Mich.

Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Doris Navey Gibson

HUNTERSVILLE – Doris Navey Gibson, 91, of Huntersville, died Jan. 23, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Ann and Dean Benton.

Born in Charlotte on Nov. 8, 1920, she was the fourth daughter of the late Richard Lee and Madge Wilkinson Navey.

Gibson was an active member of Huntersville Presbyterian Church for 52 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gibson, who died Dec. 12, 2003; daughter, Ricky Elizabeth; and four sisters, Ferne Lambeth, Eula Kistler, Margaret Conley and Rubye Lloyd.

She is survived by her daughter of Cornelius; grandchildren, Trey Barnette and wife, Julie, and Michael Barnette and wife, Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Joshua, Jordan, Savannah, Alexander and Molly; sisters, Nancy Hargette, of Atlanta, Ga., and Barbara Asbury of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at Huntersville Presbyterian Church on Jan. 26, with the Rev. Vern Dodd officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius.

Randall Stuart Brown

DAVIDSON – Randall Stuart Brown, 74, of Davidson, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at the Oaks Nursing Home.

Born May 30, 1937, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Doris Brown Shelton. He retired from Reeves Curon of Cornelius in 1973.

He is survived by his sons, Randy Brown and wife, Linda, of Marietta, Ga., and Todd Brown and wife, Audrey, of Davidson; brother, Tim Shelton and wife, Anne Walker, of Charlotte; sisters, Anne Shelton and Jane Shelton, of Mooresville; grandchildren, Krista, Garrett, Shane, Breena and Hollie Brown.

Funeral services were held Jan. 25 at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Bailey officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery.

Barry Alan Bowe

HUNTERSVILLE – Barry Alan Bowe, 54, of Huntersville, formerly of Charleston W. Va., died Jan. 23, 2012, at his home.

Bowe was the principal at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte. He began his career in Kanawha County Schools in West Virginia, where he served for 22 years before moving to the Bald Knob School District in State College, Penn.

In 2007, Bowe joined Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Thornton Bowe; brother- and sister-in-law, Gary and Kay Bowe; and niece, Carrie Bowe, all of Charleston.

His father, Harry Bowe, preceded him in death.

A funeral service was held Jan. 29 in Charleston.

Flora Pratt

HUNTERSVILLE – Flora Pratt, 89, of Huntersville, formerly of Hollywood and St. Augustine, Fla., died on Jan. 24, 2012.

Born June 9, 1922, in Mokane, Mo., to the late William Amos and Flora Van Zandt, Pratt retired in 1984 as a bookkeeper for the law firm Ellis, Spencer, Butler and Kissland.

In addition to her parents, Pratt was preceded in death by her husband, Kester Pratt; son Douglas W. Jones; sisters, Marie Wiley Ashmead, Betty Wiley Light and Dorothy J. Wiley; and brothers, William H. Wiley and James A. Wiley.

She is survived by her son, Michael E. Jones, of Roseville, Calif, daughter, Nancy Jones Parzych and her husband, John, of Huntersville; Douglas Jones’ life partner, Louis A. Bradbury, of East Hampton, N.Y.; sister, LeJuen Wiley O’Neal, of St. Augustine, Fla.; five step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 28, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.
