CHARLOTTE – Four Lake Norman-area students will advance to the state science fair after winning their divisions at the 2012 Charlotte Mecklenburg Regional Science and Engineering Fair held Feb. 4 at UNC Charlotte. Five students also took home special awards from science- and technology-related organizations.
The following division winners will go on to represent the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region at the March 24 N.C. Science and Engineering Fair at Meredith College in Raleigh:
• Grace Poteat, Huntersville Elementary – Elementary Division
• Caroline Gilland, Bradley Middle- – Junior Division
• Sydney Capps, Lake Norman Christian – Junior Division
• Jules Carter, North Mecklenburg High – Senior Division
Special award winners include:
• Caroline Gilland, Francis Bradley Middle – the American Psychological Association, Broadcom Masters and N.C. American Water Works & Water Environment Association awards
• Jules Carter, North Mecklenburg High – Association for Women Geoscientist, RICOH, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy/U.S. Marine Corps and Center for STEM Education Excellence in Research awards
• Lexi Mecum, Lake Norman Christian – Broadcom Masters and LS3P Architects award
• Emma Beightol, Lake Norman Christian – Broadcom Masters award
• Grace Poteat, Huntersville Elementary, Discovery Place Discovery Award and LUESA Earth Awareness awards
