DAVIDSON – Two seasons. Two championships. Dizzying statistics.

The Davidson Day football team and its record-setting quarterback beat Arden Christ School 54-38 in the N.C Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II championship game Nov. 16 to earn its second state championship in as many years of existence.

Will Grier led the nation and set state records for passing yards in a season (5,785) and touchdown passes (69). He completed 324 of 414 passes (78 percent).

Three receivers – Aaron Seward, Evan Gates and Jordan Young – topped 1,000 receiving yards. Davidson Day (11-2) scored 50 or more points eight times.

“Our goal has always been to prepare our boys to be champions in all walks of life, and football is a great tool for that,” Patriots coach Chad Grier said. “We are proud of our success, but we are more proud of the way our boys have taken on the challenge.”
