CORNELIUS – Robert W. Sims, 89, died Oct. 26. Born Dec. 22, 1922, he was the son of the late J.O. and Carrie Sims. He was preceded in death by an infant son; four sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris; children, Larry and wife, Karen; David, Kathy and Kelley and husband, Mike; four grandchildren, Courtney and husband, Jake, Ryan, Haylee and Tyler; great-granddaughter, Ava; and brother, Don.
A U.S. Army veteran, Sims served his country in World War II. He was a founding and lifetime member of the Cornelius Volunteer Fire Department and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 86.
A celebration of life service for Sims was held Oct. 29 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

M. Wayne Taylor
HUNTERSVILLE – M. Wayne Taylor died Oct. 26 after a long illness. Born in Mecklenburg County, he was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Ernest and Manolya Taylor; and mother, Louise Taylor. Wayne served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and also owned and operated Taylor’s Construction for over 39 years.
Survivors include wife of 40 years, Penny; sons, Adam of Huntersville and Bryan and wife, Lori, of Indian Land, S.C.; daughter, Amanda of Huntersville; three grandchildren, Amina, Yasmine and Jackson; sister, Sylvia Norris; nephew, John of Salt Lake City, Utah; and niece, Donna of Mooresville.
Funeral services for Taylor were held Oct. 28 at James Funeral Home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Donate Life NC, 3900 Westpoint Blvd. Suite F, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.

Edward “Whitey” Napieralski
DAVIDSON – Edward “Whitey” Napieralski, 87, died Oct. 25, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville. He was born on April 17, 1925, in Jersey City to the late Stanley and Michalena Napieralski. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include sisters, Frances and Helen; and nieces, Michaelena Icklan and Nancy Mulcahy. His wife, Irene, preceded him in death.

CORNELIUS – Michelle Zbytek, 52, died Oct. 24 after a battle with cancer. Born Aug. 3, 1960, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, she was preceded in death by father, David Carano and mother, Jan Carano.
Michelle was an elementary and middle school teacher for many years in the Charlotte area.
Survivors include husband, Lawrence Zbytek; daughter, Lauren Henkel; sister, Karen Carano; brothers-in-law, Alan Zbytek, Curtis Lindahl and Don Smith; nieces, Sara Hafner, Kaylee Zbytek, Jamie Lindahl and Jessica Smith; nephews, James Hafner, Tyler and Shad Zbytek, Jason Smith and David Lindahl and wife, Colleen; great-nephew, Henry Lindahl; sisters-in-law Patricia Hafner, Judy Smith and Wendy Zbytek; and parents-in-law Harry and Virginia Zbytek.
Funeral services for Zybtek were held Oct. 27 at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cornelius Animal Shelter, 19110 Meridian St., Cornelius, NC 28031. James Funeral Home served the family.
Todd Francis Skinner
HUNTERSVILLE – Todd Francis Skinner, 44, died Oct. 24. He was born Dec. 7, 1967, to the late Donald William Skinner and Gladys Burke Skinner.
He is survived by his two daughters, Paige Rae Skinner and Meghan Burke Skinner both of Huntersville; his fiancé, Robin Jenest of Davidson; and his sister, Ellen Skinner Kennedy, husband, Kevin, and their two sons, Scott and Jason of Cary.
A memorial service was held on Oct. 28 at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville

Penny Lloyd Gillespie
HUNTERSVILLE – Penny Lloyd Gillespie, 59, fought cancer for 13 years and died Oct. 19 at the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born on Feb. 7, 1953, in Charlotte. Gillespie graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1971 and worked at Sunox for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by parents, Douglas and Jean Lloyd; and sister, Patti Nutt of Cornelius.
Survivors include husband, Wayne Gillespie of Huntersville; daughters, Amy Haigler and husband, Matt, of Midland, Whitney Ricciardi and husband, Jimmy, of Indian Land, S.C.; sister, Pam Sparrow and husband, Frank, of Huntersville; uncle, Roy Moore of Cornelius; niece, Jennifer Jackson and husband, Jamie, of Huntersville; nephew, Justin Sparrow of Huntersville; grandchildren, Cassie and Caleb Haigler and Trey and Macy Gillespie; and great nephews, Dylan and Evan Jackson.
