LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Davidson College men’s basketball team couldn’t handle 17th-ranked Gonzaga’s inside-outside combination of Elias Harris and Kevin Pangos in an 81-67 loss Sunday in the Old Spice Classic championship game.
Davidson (3-3) started slowly by trailing 13-4, and despite foul trouble by De’Mon Brooks, its leading scorer, closed to within 55-53 on Nic Cochran’s two free throws with eight minutes, 15 seconds left.
Pangos, who had 23 points, sank five 3-pointers, including three in a three-minute span of the second half as Gonzaga (6-0) pulled away. Harris was the inside threat, and shot 9-of-11 from the floor with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Cochran led Davidson with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Jake Cohen scored 13 and Brooks added 12.
Davidson’s next game will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Chattanooga.
