HUNTERSVILLE – SouthLake Christian running back Robert Washington Jr., who just finished his freshman season, received his second scholarship offer from a Southeastern Conference school.

Mississippi State made a four-year offer Nov. 10 to Washington, a 5-foot-11, 180 pounder who rushed for 1,017 yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games. He received an offer from Mississippi last summer, but it didn’t include a four-year guarantee.

Robert Washington Sr. told recruiting site 247sports.com that Mississippi State assistant coach Tim Brewster said the school would honor the commitment for four years, regardless of injury. Washington Sr. said his son is ready to commit but “we want him to go through the full process for a little longer before he makes a decision.”

Washington Jr. battled a hip injury during the first half of his freshman season, but returned with rushing games of 151, 155, 163 and 165 yards in consecutive weeks. He averaged 11.4 yards per carry during the season.
