Girl Scouts ask neighbors for ‘A Can If You Can’
by Staff Writer
The food collected will be used to fill the Loaves & Fishes pantries at the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson and Huntersville United Methodist Church. Residents can also drop off food donations 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St.
Priority needs include canned meat, canned fruit, canned pastas, 100 percent juice and cereal, but avoid glass containers. Hundreds of girls will be participating in the drive led by the Meck 1 Service Unit Team for the Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council.
Last year the girls collected more than 10,600 pounds of food for Loaves & Fishes. Loaves & Fishes, a nonprofit emergency food pantry program, fed 114,177 people and is on track to feed 125,000 this year.
