National Walk to School Day was Oct. 3, and students in Davidson took part by walking from Davidson Green to their school.

The Community School of Davidson, Davidson Day School, Davidson Elemntary SChool and Woodlawn School all participated in the event.

Students were escorted by parents, teachers, davidson college students and athletes along with community leaders.

Kristen Coupal, a parent and PTO member at Davidson Elementary, participated by serving as the crossing guard at the corner of Main Street and Chairman Blake Lane.

"It's a fun opportunity to be out here doing this," Coupal said.

The goal of the "Walk to School" events is to help create safer routes for walking and biking and emphasize the importance of increasing physical acitivy among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment, and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
