Davidson Day’s Bradley scores 50th career soccer goal

DAVIDSON – Davidson Day striker C. J. Bradley, a sophomore, scored his 50th career goal last month in a 2-0 victory against Grace Academy.

“Scoring the 50th goal of my career has made me feel extremely proud of myself ... but I could not have achieved this without the help of all of my teammates throughout the years and my two great coaches,” Bradley said. “But scoring doesn’t mean as much if we don’t win consistently. Our first step is a conference championship.”

Bradley became a team captain this season on a squad that includes 15 freshmen and sophomores. The Patriots have won three straight to improve to 7-10-2.

Four lake-area schools win NCHSAA sportsmanship award

Hopewell, Hough, Lincoln Charter and Pine Lake Prep were among 127 schools honored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for not having any ejections during their athletic events in the 2011-12 school year.

The 127 schools represent 32.6 percent of the NCHSAA’s 390 member schools last year.

“It is our goal to get the honor every year,” said Hough athletics director Masanori Toguchi. “We stress to everyone that steps on campus about the importantance of sportsmanship.”

Schools with no ejections received a certificate of recognition at the recent NCHSAA regional meetings across the state.

“We are proud that 127 schools were ejection-free last year,” NCHSAA commissioner Davis Whitfield said, “but we have to continue to make sportsmanship a priority and not lose focus until all member schools are also ejection-free.”
