CORNELIUS – To address the growing number of unwanted cats, the Cornelius Animal Shelter has partnered with the Lake Norman Lucky Cats Program.
The town will use a trap-neuter-return method employed by the Lucky Cats program to control feral cats. Whenever a feral cat is trapped, Cornelius shelter officials will provide medical care, spay or neuter the cat and then return the feline to the area where it was trapped. The cats also get their ears tipped so the Animal Control officers will know the cat has gone through the program.
Officials with the town and Lucky Cat want to try to control the feral cat population while also avoiding euthanizing those that are caught. When caught, feral cats often fear humans and are not good candidates for adoption.
Find more information about the program online at www.luckycats.org or call 704-877-7779.
