HUNTERSVILLE – Latta Plantation, 5225 Sample Road, invites area home-schoolers to its Fall Home School Day, “Yesterday’s Children,” Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The day includes activities, demonstrations and displays that take visitors through the plantation house, buildings and grounds. Topics include manners and morals, children’s clothing, diseases and herbal medicines, discipline, toys, games and education.
Home-schoolers get two crafts, hornbooks and ninepins with the $6 admission. Children four and younger get in free, and no reservations are necessary.
That day, home-schoolers will find manner stops, where they will learn a 19th century manner and pick up pages that will form a booklet to take home. The presentation schedule is:
• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.: “Literacy, Numeracy and Dunces, Of Course” at Alexander Cabin.
• 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.: “Riddled with Disease- Consumption, Scurvy, Rickets and More” at Carriage Barn.
• 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.: “What They Wore” at Carriage Barn.
