Apparently, Charlotte’s reputation as a budding soccer hotbed precedes it, as last week the city was scheduled to host to a contingent of representatives from England’s Reading FC soccer team.
Representatives from the organization were slated to tour Charlotte Sept. 1-4 to assess the city’s ability to host the club’s 2012 preseason training camp and tour.
Former Arsenal FC player Bryan McDermott, Reading’s manager, was scheduled to head the search to take a close look at potential game facilities at Davidson College and UNC Charlotte, as well as practice sites at Providence Day School, Charlotte Country Day School and The Palisades.
Reading FC, founded in 1871, plays in the English Championship League, which is one step below the famed English Premier League.
