DAVIDSON – Ellen Morris Prewitt, author of “Making Crosses: A Creative Connection to God,” will offer a cross-making workshop Sept. 24, a Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Davidson United Methodist Church’s Chapel, 304 S. Main St.
Sponsored by the church’s Prayer Shawl Ministry, the workshop is open to anyone and offers the non-artist a new means of creative prayer. The workshop costs $10, payable at the door, and the church asks people interested in attending to register – and request child care if needed – by calling 704-892-8277. Supplies will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring broken and found objects.
Early in her life, during times of turmoil, Prewitt found healing in gluing pieces of scattered debris into art objects. After the shock of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, “in my sorrow, I turned to the cross,” she said.  “I began making crosses from broken and found objects.”
Her book, published by Paraclete Press, takes the reader step-by-step through the meditative practice of selecting crossbeams, finding discarded objects and telling the story of the adorned cross.
