HUNTERSVILLE – Preschoolers and elementary students from Chesterbrook Academy locations in Mooresville and Huntersville will spend the morning of Sept. 29 loading donations onto a truck heading to Binghamton, N.Y. Binghamton was devastated by flooding as a result of Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene.
According to a press release sent out by the school, Binghamton suffered nearly $25 million in damage to its infrastructure and water treatment facilities.
The Binghamton area was devastated by a flood in 2006, and most companies and residents have only recently fully recovered. About 95 percent of Binghamton residents do not have flood insurance.
The relief effort comes as part of the school’s Giving Without Walls initiative. By donating necessary objects such as nonperishable food, clothing, and cleaning supplies, students learn that it is just as important to help those in need even if they are not living in their own community.
Chesterbrook Academy is located at 15115 Norman View Lane in Huntersville.
