CORNELIUS – The Cornelius Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture Department has two upcoming programs for local residents looking to get in better shape: Boot Camp and the Couch-to-5K Running Plan. Both classes are taught by Jeff Heal, owner of Fitness Together in Cornelius and Davidson, and each class will be held at the Bailey Middle School track, located at 11900 Bailey Road.
The classes will be held on Saturday mornings from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., starting Saturday, Sept. 24, and ending Oct. 29.
Boot Camp is an outdoor fitness program offering instruction, nutritional counseling and motivational training. The six-week session is packed with fun and energizing activities designed to help participants reach their fitness goals.
The registration fee is $40 for residents and $48 for non-residents. Only those 18 years or older may register.
The Couch-to-5K Running Plan is a six-week program for ages 14 and older that will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 26, and ending Nov. 2.
The plan helps beginning runners learn the proper warm-up techniques. Participants will be put through a running workout that helps runners progress toward running a 5-kilometer race.  Participants will also be instructed on proper stretches for a healthy post-run cool down.
Participants may register for these courses in person at Cornelius Town Hall or online through www.cornelius
pr.org.  For additional information, call 704-896-6031.
