More than 500 Girl Scout Troops in Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson will be out Oct. 1 collecting canned goods for Loaves & Fishes.  The girl scouts are hoping neighbors will donate canned goods to help feed hungry people in their communities.  The troops will go door-to-door collecting non-perishable food in the morning. Residents can also drop off food donations at the Ada Jenkins Center, at 212 Gamble St. in Davidson, between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Oct. 1.
Donations will be used to fill the Loaves & Fishes food pantries located at the Ada Jenkins Center and Huntersville United Methodist Church.
The girls are especially looking for canned meat, canned fruit, 100 percent juice, cereal and canned beans.
Last year, Loaves & Fishes fed 110,336 people and in its 35-year history has never turned anyone away for lack of food.
