Arrests made in attempted bank robbery

HUNTERSVILLE – Two Charlotte men, accused of robbing a Gilead Road Wachovia last month, turned themselves in this week to the Mecklenburg County jail.
Elsworth Fitzgerald Usher Jr., 21, was charged with common law robbery and resisting a public officer and Stephen Michael Giles, 24, was charged with conspiracy to commit bank robbery and accessory after the fact, police said.
According to police, Usher entered the Market Square Drive branch off Gilead Road on Aug. 22 and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller refused to give him anything and he ran away, police said.
Giles was driving the getaway car, police said
Usher was released from the Mecklenburg County jail after posting a $25,500 bond on Sept. 12, the jail log said.
Giles was being held at the jail on a $34,500 bond, the jail log said.
