Mark T. Gordon
HUNTERSVILLE – Mark Thomas Gordon, 55, of Huntersville, died Sept. 4, 2011, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.
Born Jan. 21, 1956, in Quincy, Ill., Mr. Gordon was a son of the late Dr. John William and Charlene Buckman Gordon.
He graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and a minor in chemistry. Mark began his career in genetics working at Dekalb Ag Research in 1978. He later became a chemist with H.B Fuller Co. in Palatine, Ill. In 1991, he moved to Huntersville and worked at BASF Chemical Corp., earning a patent for his work with adhesives.
He volunteered at the local Humane Society, Lake Forest Presbyterian Church and Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann Gordon; sons David and Bradley Gordon, both of Huntersville; brother, Matthew Gordon, of Quincy, Ill.; and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Lauren and Olivia Gordon.
A funeral service was held Sept. 7 at Lake Forest Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Moses, with burial at Northlake Memorial Gardens. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home was in charge.

Ethel G. Rollins
HUNTERSVILLE – Ethel LaDonna Gregory Rollins, 85, of Charlotte, died Sept. 4, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital.
A funeral was held Sept. 8 at Christ Community Church, with burial at Marshville City Cemetery beside her husband. Samuel S. James, Funeral Service Licensee, was in charge.
Born March 7, 1926, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Rollins was a daughter of the late Rufus W. and Lundy C. Gregory. After moving to Charlotte in 1942, she married Dwight L. Rollins in April 1946. She retired from IBM in 1993.
Her husband of 25 years; brothers Dave, Leo, Flake, Roger, Hoover and Tom Gregory; and sisters Sally Mae, Mary and Lona preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Winfred Rollins, and wife, Toni, of Mint Hill; daughters Trisha Tucker and husband, Ron, of Denver, and Tracey Carter, of Rock Hill, S.C.; siblings Nancy Stegall, of Indian Trail, Billy Gregory, of Stallings, and Bobby Gregory, of Statesville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Helen L. Vasiloff

DAVIDSON – Helen L. Vasiloff, 81, of Davidson, died Sept. 5, 2011, at The Pines of Davidson.
Born Feb. 10, 1930, in Barberton, Ohio, Mrs. Vasiloff was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Louis.
Survivors include her son, Christopher Vasiloff, and wife, Cynthia, Cornelius; daughter, Judith Kay Hyten, and husband, Terry, Lake Ozark, Mo.; brothers Louie and Alex Louis; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, is in charge.

Esther H. Oehler

HIGHLAND CREEK– Esther Fay Hager Oehler, 92, died Sept. 6, 2011, at the Haven in Highland Creek.
Born May 2, 1919, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Oehler was a daughter of the late Pierce Ivey and Elizabeth Hager.
She attended Long Creek School, where she played on the basketball team. She married June Oehler on Nov. 10, 1938, and worked at June’s barbecue business. Even after retirement, she worked at her son’s barbecue barn.
She attended Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Oehler also helped orchestrate the annual Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church barbecue.
Her husband of 64 years, sisters Ruth and Sara Hager, Margaret Nelson and Bea Mundy; and brothers Walter and Craven Hager preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Tommy Oehler and wife, Grace Ann, Donnie Oehler and wife, Susie, and Craven Oehler and wife, Sue; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Sept. 8 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Revs. John Wilkerson and Ernest Gardner, with burial in the church cemetery. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, was in charge.

Martha B. Poteat

HUNTERSVILLE – Martha Boyce Poteat, 85, of Charlotte, died Sept. 7, 2011, at her home.
A funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 12, at Huntersville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Samuel S. James, Funeral Service Licensee, was in charge.
Born June 7, 1926, in Mecklenburg County, Ms. Poteat was a daughter of the late Samuel Charles and Gertrude Love Poteat.
She graduated from Harding High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy Reserve. She retired as an appraiser for the Federal Housing Administration and then worked as a real estate appraiser.
Her parents; stepmother, Carrie Poteat; brothers Samuel Charles Poteat Jr. and Atwell Poteat; two nephews; and a niece preceded her in death.
Survivors include her brother, William Calvin Poteat, of Charlotte.
