HUNTERSVILLE – Police are investigating an incident of a camera being placed at a Sam Furr ATM to capture the pin numbers of customers.
A customer spotted the wireless camera Aug. 1 at the Cash Points ATM at 9101 Sam Furr Road and alerted police. An employee found the camera, positioned to spy the pin pad, and a battery pack on the machine, Huntersville Capt. Michael Kee said. It is unclear how long the camera had been there or if it was wirelessly transmitting the video.
Huntersville police alerted the U.S. Treasury Department and are now working with the U.S. Secret Service in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the camera should contact the Huntersville Police Department at 704-464-5400.
