HUNTERSVILLE – The Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department has opened a new disc-golf course in Bradford Park at 17005 Davidson-Concord Road.

Designed by Disc Golf Hall of Fame member Stan McDaniel, the 18-hole layout features short tees of about 5,600 feet and longer layouts stretching as far as 6,800 feet. The Bradford Park course will be one of 14 used in the Charlotte region for the 2012 Professional and Amateur Disc Golf World Championships.

Led by McDaniel, Charlotte Disc Golf Club members and volunteers contributed more than 1,500 hours building the new course, which is open seven days per week, 365 days a year from 7 a.m. to dusk.

McDaniel began playing competitive disc golf when he moved his family to Charlotte in the late 1980s. In 1994, he won the PDGA World Champion Masters title, a feat he repeated in 1996 and 1997. McDaniel has designed and led construction of many disc-golf venues, including world-class courses at Hornets Nest and Renaissance parks in Charlotte.
