Barbara L. Seefus

HUNTERSVILLE – Barbara Linn Seefus, 76, of Charlotte, died Aug. 1, 2011. Her daughter, Cindy Japec, lives in Huntersville.

Born June 6, 1935, in Cherokee, Iowa, Mrs. Seefus was a daughter of the late John Blake and Chrystal Stevenson. She spent much of her life in education and as a hospital volunteer.

In 2006, she moved to Charlotte for her family. She was able to see two grandchildren graduate from high school and her grandson enlist in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include son, Doug Seefus, and wife, Helene, Denver, and grandchildren Jordyn and Tiffani Japec and Blake and Madison Seefus.

A memorial service was held Aug. 4 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Rick Felts.

Thomas R. Stark

CORNELIUS – Thomas Robert “Tom” Stark, 69, of Cornelius, formerly of Syracuse, N.Y., died Aug. 1, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville.

Born April 20, 1942, in Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Stark was a son of Betty Stark and the late Robert Moore Stark.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Postal Service. He was working for Lake Norman Chrysler.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Stapleton; son, Jon Stapleton, Cornelius; daughters Debbie Demarco, Cheryl Stark, Tracy Pierce and husband, David, and Robyn Stark, all of Syracuse, and Ashley Stapleton, Cornelius; sister, Donna Stark, Syracuse; brother, Michael Stark, Syracuse; and four grandchildren.

A service will be held later in Syracuse, N.Y. Samuel S. James, Funeral Service Licensee, is assisting the family.

Charles ‘Jack’ Strickland

MOORESVILLE – Charles “Jack” Arthur Strickland, 83, of Mooresville, died Aug. 4, 2011, at his residence.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Aug. 7, at Hopewell Baptist Church, in Davidson, conducted by the Rev. Sammy Pierce, with burial in the church cemetery. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, was in charge.

Born Feb. 13, 1928, in Kannapolis, Mr. Strickland was a son of the late James Edward and Lilly Henderson Strickland.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a truck driver for Roadway. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and Mooresville Masonic Lodge 496 AF & AM. Grandson Emmett Naczi preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Laura “Polly” Hager Strickland; daughters Pamela Williams and husband, Richard, Vickie Firczak and husband, Rick, and Sandi Reed, all of Mooresville, and Bonnie Naczi and husband, Jules, Wallingford, Conn.; brother, George Strickland, Kannapolis; sister, Adelia Taylor, Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Katherine B. Moore

HUNTERSVILLE – Katherine Bruner Moore, 85, of Huntersville, formerly of Birmingham, Ala., and Atlanta, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 6, at The Havens of Highland Creek.

Born Oct. 31, 1925, in Birmingham, Mrs. Moore was a daughter of the late Thomas M. and Katherine Mozzelle Wood Bruner.

She worked as an editor for a major Atlanta newspaper, completed two college degrees and arranged a library in memory of her son, Orbun Troy Moore III, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Larry Moore and wife, Elana, Concord; brother, Thomas Mallard Bruner Jr., Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala. Samuel S. James, Funeral Service License, is assisting the family.
