Braving the heat for Lake Norman Animal Rescue
by Staff Writer
HUNTERSVILLE – While enjoying their summer vacation, friends Brooke Lackey, 11, Bennett Lackey, 6, and Lea Hoster, 10, decided to raise money to the help the nonprofit Lake Norman Animal Rescue. With the help of Jen Goonan, a fourth-grade teacher at Huntersville Elementary School, they made bookmarks, headbands and key chains. With Lea’s mom, Shannon, and a dog named Goggles, the friends, using the banner of Kids Taking Action, sold the items in front of Petco in Huntersville the morning of July 30. They raised $53 and also got donations of supplies, Shannon Hoster reported.
