Young people with disabilities showcase their talent

CORNELIUS – The Lake Norman Aktion Club, an affiliate of the Kiwanis Club of Lake Norman, is sending a group of young people to district competition this month to showcase the club’s talent.
The Aktion Club is a community-service group that provides adults with disabilities with an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership, serve their community and demonstrate the dignity and value of themselves. Club Advisor Bill Russell said the Aktion Club has taken on community service projects, including a food drive, Christmas gifts for military personnel stationed overseas and cards for shut-ins at senior centers.
The club meets on the fourth Friday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce office, 19900 W. Catawba Ave. The Kiwanis Club usually provides refreshments and Arc of Mecklenburg County arranges for activities.
The club recently held a talent contest and selected several members to represent them in dancing or singing at the district competition July 15 in Mint Hill. Anyone interested in participating in the Aktion Club should call Russell at 704-892-1922.
