CORNELIUS – Late last week, after the Herald Weekly published an article about the Cornelius town board switching to iPads, paperless agendas and meeting records, the town found itself getting a lot of attention on tech and business blogs.
Gigaom, a blog about Apple and its products, first picked up the Herald article. The only problem: Gigaom placed Cornelius in Colorado, not North Carolina.
Other websites and blogs picked up Gigaom’s report – and the error.
MacDaily News, CNN Money, Worldnews.com, the Benton Foundation and, possibly the big kahuna, the New York Times gave Cornelius headlines. Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte said a New York Times reporter interviewed Town Manager Anthony Roberts on Friday about the town going paperless.
In an email to an Apple representative and town officials, Tarte said, “Dave if you got this email, I believe the Town of Cornelius might be interested in discussing how we might become your poster child for municipalities going paperless with Apple technology.”
Mayor Pro Tem Lynette Rinker quipped in another email, “One of these stories warns against our playing Angry Birds (a computer game) during board meetings. They have obviously met us! WOW this is amazing.”
