Ellen S. Hazelton
DAVIDSON – Ellen Stewart Hazelton, 93, of Davidson, died July 19, 2011, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville.
Born March 8, 1918, in St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Hazelton was a daughter of the late Elvin Stewart and Bertha Wood. She worked as a real estate broker in Rumson, N.J., where she founded and owned her own agency for more than 30 years.
After retiring, she volunteered at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass., and participated in the Red Hat Society in South Yarmouth, Mass.
Her husband, William S. Hazelton; son, W. Stewart Hazelton; and daughter, Nancy Bloch, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Betsy Hazelton, Davidson; grandsons Andrew Todd, Philip Bloch and Christopher and Judson Hazelton; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Samuel S. James, Funeral Service Licensee, Huntersville, is assisting the family.

Donald R. Stout
CORNELIUS – Donald Ross Stout, 66, of Cornelius, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at home, 10 years after being diagnosed with cancer.
Born New Years Day 1945 in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Stout was the son of the late Margaret G. and Norman P. Stout.
He and his wife, Diane Schadt Stout, who would have celebrated their 41st anniversary Aug. 8, moved from New York to Charlotte in 1974 and raised their three children here. Mr. Stout retired from Haverty Furniture and coached Select Soccer boys and girls for the Park Sharon Tornadoes. Through the years, he attended a World Series game, Super Bowl game and Final Four games. He and his wife attended Merlefest the past 12 years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, D.J. Stout; daughters Tara Stout and Robyn Stout Sheridan and husband, Michael; and grandchildren Celia, Dillon, Ceria, Connor and Della Mae.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 26, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Charlotte. Samuel S. James, Funeral Service Licensee, Huntersville, was in charge.

Winifred R. Stevenson
MOORESVILLE – Winifred R. Stevenson, 73, of Mooresville, died Sunday, July 24, 2011. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius.
Born Jan. 23, 1938, in East Wilton, Maine, Mrs. Stevenson was a daughter of Madeline Lake McLaughlin and Roland Ranger. She graduated from Wilton Academy in 1956 and received an associate’s degree from Husson Business College in 1957. On Oct. 26, 1957, she married John A. Stevenson, her high school sweetheart, and they moved to Painted Post, N.Y. In 1972, the couple moved to East Corning, N.Y., and then in 1988 to Mooresville.
A member of Mount Zion United Methodist since 1989, Mrs. Stevenson was a member of the Don Bridger Sunday School Class and active with United Methodist Women. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a volunteer at Corning Hospital for many years.
John Stevenson, her husband of 53 years, died in November 2010.
Survivors include sons Jeffrey Stevenson and wife, Jennifer, Alpine, N.Y., and Robert Stevenson and wife, Leanne, Concord; daughter Julie Patterson and husband, Jerry, Claremont; sister, Marilyn Stanley, and brother, Elwood McLaughlin, both of Maine; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius, conducted by the Rev. Jill Smith, with burial in the church cemetery. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is in charge. Online condolences: www.cavin-cook.com.
