Davidson Methodist senior high youth tour Washington
by Staff Writer
DAVIDSON – Thirty-six teenagers – members of the Senior High and Youth Handbell choirs – and seven adults from Davidson United Methodist Church recently returned from a tour of Washington, D.C.
Members of the choirs led Sunday morning worship at Capitol Hill United Methodist Church. They also sang and rang concerts at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land and the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
They finished their tour by leading a Wednesday chapel service for the staff of the General Board of Church and Society in the United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill. The United Methodist Building is the only non-government building on Capitol Hill, and the youth choirs got a police escort.
The group visited a number of churches, museums and government buildings in the capital and saw Marine One, the presidential helicopter, picking up President Obama. The youth choirs and handbell choirs will begin rehearsing again in August. Any interested youth should contact the Rev. Kevin Turner, minister of music and worship, at kturner@davidsonumc.org or 704-892-8277.
