HUNTERSVILLE – Dr. David M. Shope is joining Dr. William R. Mitchell’s Southern Oncology practice at 10030 Gilead Road, suite 344, in the Physicians Plaza behind Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville.

In a news release, Mitchell said he expects to open a second office later this year.

Shope is moving to the Huntersville area from Winston Salem, where he completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in June. Shope also worked on the staff of the Heffner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

Shope has a master of science in clinical chemistry and BS in biology from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. He earned a doctor of osteopathic medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University and completed his residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. He brings a strong research background, including cellular and molecular characterization of breast-cancer genes.
