CORNELIUS – Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and UMAR, a nonprofit that assists adults with developmental disabilities, will hold a housewarming June 19 for the three residents of the new Disciple Home at 19338 Zion Ave.
Disciple Home is the Huntersville-based nonprofit’s first independent living residence for adults, and the celebration takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the home, which is located near the church.
The three residents will receive support from UMAR staff as they learn how to live independently while developing life skills such as managing a home budget, buying groceries and dividing up household chores. Construction of the Disciple Home began last fall. Volunteers from the Lake Norman District of the United Methodist Church and UMAR staff collaborated with Wesley Community Development Corp. to build the house. Mt. Zion United Methodist Church donated the land for the project.
For more information about the housewarming, contact Lena Brennan at 704-659-7632 or LenaB@UMARInfo.com.
