At their town board meetings Monday night, June 6, commissioners in Huntersville and Cornelius unanimously approved a resolution opposing a N.C. Senate bill that would keep towns from enforcing standards in home construction.
N.C. Senate bill 731 would allow builders to ignore standards of exterior building color, type of style or exterior cladding material, style of materials of roof structures or porches, exterior nonstructural architectural ornamentation, location or architectural styling of windows and doors, including garage doors, the number and types of rooms and interior layout of rooms.
In short, new homes could look wildly different from their neighbors and planners and homeowner associations feel the move could harm home values and the neighborhood appeals.
Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte said officials in Davidson drafted the resolution opposing the legislation and asked the other two towns to support it.
The Senate has approved the legislation an sent it to N.C. House of Representatives.
