HUNTERSVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to modify the intersection at Hambright and McCoy roads to a four-way stop Wednesday, June 15.
The intersection currently has stop signs on Hambright Road, but not on McCoy Road. State officials decided to make the change after a study of traffic volumes, crashes and other factors showed the need to add stop signs for McCoy Road traffic. The conversion work will be postponed if there is inclement weather that day.
Also on Monday, June 6, road crews closed the connection of Knoxwood Drive to N.C. 73 (Sam Furr Road) for 30 days as part of the N.C. 73 widening project. Blythe Development, the contractor of the projects, expects to reopen the Knoxwood Drive connection July 6. Crews are lowering the grade on Knoxwood Drive to connect with the new grade for N.C. 73.
The crews will post a detour directing Knoxwood Drive traffic around to Hampton Crossing to get to N.C. 73.
