DAVIDSON – Organizers have announced plans for the third annual Jason Ray/Liberty Mutual Invitational Golf Tournament on Sept. 26.
Ray was the Tar Heel mascot killed in a pedestrian accident while attending the 2007 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Finals in New Jersey. All proceeds go to support the Hospital Organ Transplant Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Jason Kendall Ray Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all fees and donations to the event are tax deductible.
The 18-hole tournament at River Run Country Club will feature a scramble format where men and women amateur golfers of all skill levels compete in teams. The fundraiser also features silent and live auctions of sports tickets and memorabilia and vacation packages.
Wake Forest Baseball Coach Tom Walter, who last year donated a kidney to one of his Wake Forest players, will serve as keynote speaker at the dinner and awards ceremony the night of the tournament.
