CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education named Hugh E. Hattabaugh interim superintendent of the district at its June 28 meeting. He will serve as interim for a year while the board seeks a permanent replacement for Peter Gorman, who resigned as superintendent on June 8.
Hattabaugh has been chief operating officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools since October 2008. He came to the district as an area superintendent for the North Learning Community in July 2007 from Little Rock, Ark., where he had been a deputy superintendent.
Under the terms of his contract, Hattabaugh will begin his new role on July 1 and will serve as interim through July 1, 2012. Gorman will be paid by the Board through Aug. 1 and will assist in Hattabaugh’s transition during that time.
Hattabaugh will be paid a base salary of $190,000. He is also eligible for a lump-sum payment of $35,000 at the end of his interim term.
