Adam Planty, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer for more than 11 years, plans to run for the Huntersville Board of Commissioners this fall.
A veteran, Planty, 38, joined the police department in December 1999 and has worked as a patrol and motorcycle officer. He currently serves as vice president of the Crosswinds Home Owners Association.
He and his wife, Maria, have two children, Catrina, 20, and Logan, 16.
“I’m running to ensure our citizens are protected by supporting the needs of law enforcement, the fire department and emergency medical services,” Planty said in an email to the Herald. “I want to ensure our local infrastructure is maintained, such as our roadways, sidewalks and parks. I want to promote economic development in Huntersville .... Tax dollars must be spent wisely rather than on pet projects. Taxpayer dollars need to be spent for the benefit of all citizens, not just a well-connected few. … I believe in government transparency and open communication.
“… A lifetime of learning and service has led me to this point in my life. I’ve served my country, I serve to protect the citizens of Charlotte and it is my great desire to serve the citizens of Huntersville.”
