CORNELIUS – Katie Crawford, a rising senior at Hough High School, is organizing a July 16 blood drive for Community Blood Center of the Carolinas.

Crawford, 16, the daughter of Carla and Tommy Crawford, is competing for a $1,000 scholarship the blood center offers through its Students Saving Summer Scholarship program. “I must organize a blood drive, and my drive must collect enough units to be in the top five student drives,” Crawford said in an email.

Her blood drive lasts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Carolina Woman Fitness Center, 17036 Kenton Drive, suite 200, in the Kenton Place shopping center.
