HUNTERSVILLE – Long Creek Elementary School fifth-grader Ty’Leak Austin was awarded last week the sixth annual Billy J. Presson Student Achievement Award.

The award was created in memory of Presson, who served as Long Creek Elementary School’s principal for 20 years – from 1962 to 1982. He also served as Huntersville Elementary School principal for more than 10 years.

The award recognizes a student who made significant academic improvement during the school year and demonstrated strong character traits. Ty’Leak received the award in recognition of his hard work and the high standards he sets for himself. Teachers noted his excellent behavior, citizenship and progress he’s made during the past three years.

“Ty’Leak is always willing to try, and he comes to school with a positive attitude,” said Erin Schultek, a Long Creek fifth grade teacher. “He never gives up, and he’s determined to succeed. We expect great things from him in the future.”
