Rotary District 7680 will sponsor its final Flight of Honor on Sept. 17 for World War II veterans to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and World War II veterans interested in taking the trip should apply now.
Veterans with access to a computer can download an application online at www.flightofhonor.org/. Veterans with access to a computer should call Susan Nota, at 704-596-6663, and she will mail them an application form.
On six previous Flights of Honor, Rotary District 7680 has paid for more than 600 World War II veterans from the 14 counties, including Mecklenburg and Iredell, to visit Washington to see their memorial. Rotary charges veterans nothing for the one-day trip. The Sept. 17 flight will accommodate about 120 veterans.
“We want to make this final Flight of Honor the best one,” Kelly Morris, chair of the Flight of Honor Committee, said in a news release.
“Anyone who knows a World War II veteran who has not been on a Flight of Honor and wants to go should urge the veteran to send in an application as soon as possible.”
Any person or business that wants to support Rotary’s Flight of Honor can mail a donation to Rotary Flight of Honor, P.O. Box 495, Gastonia, NC 28053. Each flight costs more than $60,000. Contributions are tax deductible.
