HUNTERSVILLE – Ryan DeOre, a junior at Pine Lake Preparatory, has been selected to attend the 2011 Academy Introduction Mission Summer Program at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., from July 17 to 23.

He was one of 500 rising seniors chosen to attend the program, which will introduce him to all aspects of cadet life. Ryan, a son of Jeff and Mary DeOre of Huntersville, plans on applying to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in the fall.

Bailey Middle: The Performing Band goes to Hersheypark, in Hershey, Pa., Friday to Sunday, June 3 to 5. … Eighth-graders enjoy a picnic Friday, June 3, put on a talent show Monday, June 6, and sign yearbooks on Tuesday, June 7.

Barnette Elementary: The Parent-Teacher Association board meets Monday, June 6. … Kindergarten through second grades celebrate the end-of-the-year Wednesday, June 8, and the third and fourth grades have their party Thursday, June 9. … The fifth-grade promotion ceremony, reception and dance take place Thursday, June 9.
