PORTLAND, MAINE – Christopher Jackson, a North Mecklenburg High School junior, has been awarded a scholarship from the Council on International Educational Exchange to travel to South Korea from Aug. 9 to 22.

He is one of 100 high school students selected to participate in the third annual South Korea Scholarship Program. Yonsei University, South Korea’s oldest university, will host the participants, who will attend academic lectures and take cultural excursions throughout the program, while fostering understanding and diplomacy between the U.S. and South Korea.

Jackson is a student in the International Baccalaureate program at North Mecklenburg High.

The council has partnered with the Korea Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of Korea, to enhance goodwill through various international exchange programs.

The organizations encourage students to apply for future scholarships online at www.ciee.org/southkorea. Families interested in hosting exchange students in the U.S. should contact the Council on International Educational Exchange at its website, www.ciee.org/highschool, or call 800-448-9944.
