CONCORD – Several north Mecklenburg Cannon School students earned medals in the National Spanish Exam, a competition sponsored in March by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. They competed at the Spanish I level against 33,000 students nationwide in the eighth- through 12th-grades.

The National Spanish Exam is a rigorous, highly competitive exam taken annually by the nation’s top high school Spanish language students. It measures student proficiency, vocabulary and grammatical skills.

Winners from Davidson, Huntersville and Cornelius include:

•Silver medalists (scoring from the 85th to 94th percentile): Kate Beckman, Noah Edmondson, Rachel Fitzpatrick, William Gordon, Colleen Hurley, Erin Norton, Kendall Thomas, Tyler Ventura and Andrew Zelina

•Bronze medalists (scoring from the 75th to 84th percentile): Annie Collom and Rachel Mazur
