After losing its last six games, the Hopewell Titans desperately needed a win entering their game against rival North Mecklenburg on April 29. To end the skid, Hopewell coach Chet Greeson sent his ace Hunter Conley to the mound against the Vikings. The Hopewell senior delivered with an outstanding 6-0 complete game victory to end the Titans’ losing streak.

“We’ve been struggling for two weeks – it was hard going through it,” said Greeson. “Hunter pitched a heck of a ball game.”

The offense was provided by leadoff hitter Cameron Underwood with an infield hit, a triple and a two-run home run. Joe Bertone added a solo shot in the sixth inning.

The Titans are now 11-12, but more important, 9-4 in the I-MECK with Mallard Creek remaining on their schedule on May 3. The Mavericks (9-3) and Mooresville Blue Devils are (9-4) and competing for second place with the Titans in the I-MECK behind league-leader Lake Norman High School.

The I-MECK baseball conference tournament was rescheduled to begin Thursday, May 5 at the home of the higher seed. The second round will be held at Hopewell High School on Friday, May 6, at 4:30 and 7 p.m. The finals are set for Monday, May 9 at the UNC Charlotte at 5 p.m. before the Southwestern Conference 4A championship game.
