The Lake Norman Charter boys lacrosse team lost a hard-fought match against defending state champion Myers Park, 10-7, in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs. The Knights’ Justin Groody scored the game’s first goal off an assist from Andrew Gobble. Groody’s strike was immediately followed by two more goals from senior captain Grayson Spittel. Jake Koferl, Brad McDonnell (twice) and Sean Henderson also scored to put the Knights in front 7-2 before the half, before Myers Park’s strong second-half comeback ended the Knight’s season.
Lake Norman Charter’s Gobble, Koferl, McDonnell, Spittel, and defenders Gabe Sandoval and Randon Hassell and goalie John Clark were named to the 2011 Conference 10 all-conference team. Hough’s Mike Hart, Hunter Howe, Joey Ruggerio, Slate Brinkley and Jordan Roberts and Hopewell’s Nick Weimer also made the list.
