CHARLOTTE – The Mecklenburg County Veterans Services Office and American Legion Post 380 will host a Memorial Day ceremony to honor soldiers who have died while serving our nation.

The event takes place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive.

The Town of Huntersville also will hold a Memorial Day ceremony Monday at 7 p.m. at Birkdale Village. The Town of Cornelius and American Legion Post 86 are sponsoring a Memorial Day ceremony and groundbreaking for the town’s future Veterans Monument on Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. See calendar, page 37.

The Veterans Services Office, a division of Mecklenburg County Community Support Services, serves as a liaison for veterans and their families seeking benefits and answers from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. About 54,000 veterans live in Mecklenburg County, representing about 6.8 percent of the population and more than any other N.C. county.
