A gift years in the making

HUNTERSVILLE – On Saturday, May 21, Megan Foreman of Trendsetters hair salon cut Jill Flanders’ hair, and the first-grader at Torrence Creek Elementary School donated her hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that uses donated hair to create wigs for women undergoing treatment for cancer.
Jill “has been growing her hair for Locks of Love for the past couple of years,” her mother, Barb Flanders, wrote in an email. “Her hair does not grow fast. She finally got to the required 10 inches with enough left over for a cute hai cut.
“… Jill told me not to cry when it was being cut, that what we were doing was a good thing to be able to help others. I abided by her wishes and am so very proud of her.”
Jill, 7, lives in the Cedarfield community with her parents, Bruce and Barb; sister, Kelly; and twin brother, Matt. She attends Community in Christ Lutheran Church and plays soccer for North Meck Soccer Club.
