Hopewell senior Hunter Conley is a three-year varsity starter on the baseball team. He’s also yet to lose to North Meck since he joined the varsity ranks. With a 5-2 victory on April 4, the Titans defeated the Vikings for the fifth consecutive time, a span that stretches three seasons.

Conley pitched a complete game victory and provided all the offense the Titans would need with a three-run homer in the second inning. It wasn’t until after the game that the Lenior-Rhyne recruit realized he’s never lost to North Meck.

“It always means more to beat North, but this is the first time I’ve thought about it,” said Conley after he was informed of his winning streak over Hopewell’s rival. “It’s cool, but it’s one of those things I won’t think about until after I’m done playing.”

Hopewell improved to 7-5 overall, 6-2 in the I-MECK 4A conference. North Meck fell to 7-4, 5-3. Up next for the Titans is a trip to Hough on April 8. The Vikings host West Charlotte on the same day.
