CORNELIUS – The North Mecklenburg Senior Center will launch weekly bid whist card games Thursday, April 7, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The senior center meets at River Church, 18731 W. Catawba Ave.
Bid whist is a form of whist, from which the game of bridge was derived. Admission for members is free, while others must pay $2 per session.
The free monthly spice lecture takes place Friday, April 8, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Trina Palmer, executive director of Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Centers, will discuss how the senior centers are funded and governed. The lecture is free and open to the community. Snacks and beverages provided.
The second spice lecture of the month takes place April 29 at the same time and features Chuck Lockwood, an educator for the Parkinson’s Association. Register in advance by calling 704-892-4041.
In addition to these special events, the senior center offers regular activities including strength-training classes, tai chi at Mt. Zion church, line dancing, bingo and other card games. The center will closed on April 22 in observance of Good Friday.
